Thank you for visiting our website.
My name is Anthony Miller. I am a carrier of cardiomyopathy and a survivor of sudden cardiac arrest.
Like most who suffer from cardiomyopathy, I was not aware at the time I was a carrier of the heart disease, until I experienced my first heart attack in January 2003. Through additional testing, it was then when I discovered I had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).
A year later after being diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, I experienced another heart attack that led to me going into sudden cardiac arrest. After this life changing event and numerous hours of rehabilitation, undergoing open heart surgery and implantation of a dual device, an internal defibrillator and pacemaker, I learned HCM is one of the main causes of tragedy of sudden cardiac death among young athletes.
It is for this reason, why my wife, Stephanie, and I founded American Foundation for Cardiomyopathy in 2009, to raise awareness about the disease that almost took my life, the importance of youth heart screenings, and people becoming CPR certified and learning the proper use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
I personally feel in the natural order of life, a child should not precede their parents. This is why American Foundation for Cardiomyopathy has joined the fight to combat cardiomyopathy and sudden cardiac death. We ask you to join us on this journey and let’s work together to make a difference.
