The Minwax pre-stain does work well if you leave it to cure a full day prior to staining (contrary to the instructions on the can). I used Minwax stains for years, and with the pre-stain conditioner (cured a full day) and lots of care you can get good results. WebSep 22, 2024 · While I've had some reasonably good results with Minwax stains, I've never used their Polyshades product. I've looked at it & thought about it, but my concern is that it's a finish as well as a colorant. I'd much prefer to play with stain color (s) to get the look I want before sealing up the surface.
