The hall was mostly constructed in the 16th century, incorporating parts of a medieval building held by the abbots of Bury St Edmunds which had been in use since before 1065. WebMelford Hall still has the family living in one of the wings, but the rest of the hall was open for visitors. All the rooms were filled with the original art work, furniture, books etc. There's so much to look at, and every room had a National Trust Volunteer who were all very informative and knowledgable.
